One dead in crash at bonfire in Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — One person is dead after a crash during a party at a bonfire near Davenport.

WQAD-TV reports police were called early Monday to a field where a group of teenagers had gathered. Police say 17-year-old William Schwener, of Davenport, was standing outside a parked car when he was hit by an SUV.

Police say the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle and struck Schwener and the parked car. He died at the scene.

Officials say another teen outside the parked car and two people inside the car suffered injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The two people in the SUV were not hurt.

Capt. David Struckman says the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
