One person killed in head-on collision with semi near Holmen

TOWN OF HOLLAND, Wis. (WKBT)- One person is dead after a crash Wednesday afternoon involving a head-on collision with a semi.

It happened at approximately 2:47 p.m. along Highway 53 and County Highway T, just north of Drugan’s.

According to La Crosse Co. Sheriff Jeff Wolf, witnesses say a series of vehicles were traveling north on Highway 53 and were slowed by a tractor hauling hay.

One of the vehicles did not slow down, according to the sheriff’s office, rear-ending an SUV and causing a chain reaction crash.

The sheriff says the driver of the car that did not slow down swerved into the southbound lane where it struck a semi tractor trailer head-on causing both the semi and car to become engulfed in flames.

The driver of the car was killed in the crash.

The semi driver had minor injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the La Crosse Co. Sheriff’s Office.
