Oneida tribal chairman targeted for ouster
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Some Oneida tribal members are circulating a petition calling for the removal of their chairman.
The petition accuses Chairman Ed Delgado of mishandling tribal resources, including a firewood donation to a wellness center and $800 paid to an elderly tribal member in poor health.
Press-Gazette Media says Delgado suspects the attempt to remove him as chairman is backed by supporters of Oneida Seven Generations, a tribal company seeking to build an alternative energy plant. Delgado has criticized the alternative energy proposal.
Opponents of the plant successfully petitioned to block the development, and then filed a petition to dissolve Oneida Seven Generations.
