Operation Wedding Gown gives military brides-to-be free dresses

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Brides-to-be either serving time in the military or marrying someone in the military had the chance to get a free wedding dress Friday.

‘Operation Wedding Gown’ is an annual event that pairs military brides with a dress they love.

By providing proof of deployment, any potential bride could find and take home a wedding dress for no cost.

Charlotte’s Bridal in La Crosse hosts the event locally as their way to give back to those who risk everything for their country.

For some, the gifted gowns are a great way to make their special day easier.

“It’s a huge stress relief because dresses can be a little pricey, and when you’re planning a wedding you want to try to avoid as much stress as possible,” said bride-to-be and gown recipient Mandy Foy.

The annual giveaway is part of the larger national event ‘Brides Across America’ which has given away more than 17,000 wedding gowns away since 2008.
