Over 500 participate in Puzzled Classic

Race raises funds for La Crosse Area Autism Foundation

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse Area Autism Foundation held the Puzzled Classic as part of Riverfest on Saturday morning.

Over 500 people participated in Saturday’s race, which is replacing the traditional Chileda Classic.

Participants could enter a 10K run, 5K run or a 5K walk. Money from race registrations will go back into the La Crosse Area Autism Foundation and help families affected by the developmental disorder.

Organizers say they are happy with the turnout.

“I think it’s great and it shows the support of the community, knowing how many people are really affected by autism,” said Adam Weissenberger, President of the La Crosse Area Autism Foundation.

Some community members are seeing the impact firsthand.

“Since we’re part of the special needs community, there’s several moms in my groups that I’m a part of who have kids with autism that struggle to find funding for the things that they need for their kids, so I think it’s really important to have something like this and raise awareness,” said Stephanie Peterson, who ran in Saturday’s race.
