Owner of abandoned dog arrested

Friday afternoon, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested the owner of the dog that was found abandoned, according to a release.

The release said that the owner voluntarily reported to the Sheriff’s Office as a direct result of the wide range media and social media coverage of the abandoned and abused black lab.

According to a release, the owner of the dog that was arrested has been identified as Terri Lynn Benson, 56, from the village of Pardeeville.

Benson is being held at the Columbia County Jail on charges of a class I felony, Mistreating Animals and a class A misdemeanor, abandoning animals, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said.

The release went on to say that Benson is scheduled to appear in Columbia County Circuit Court on Jan. 25, 2016.
