Packers vs Vikings food drive underway in La Crosse

Student Council organizes drive to help classmates

Packers and Vikings fans can cheer on their team and help out kids in the La Crosse community this week by donating non-perishable food items.

“If you want the Packers to win you can bring food and put that in there,” said Kayley Colburn as she pulled out a Cheerios box from the Packers barrel to show us. “And if you want the Vikings to win, you can put food in there, but there’s nothing to pull out right now,” she said with a smile.

Colburn and other Student Council members that represent Lincoln/SOTA II/Coulee Montessori Middle School organized the food drive.

The food will help fill the Lincoln “Cougar Cabinet” pantry to help students who need more assistance at home. Anyone in the community can come to Lincoln Middle School, 510 South 9th Street, and drop off food in the barrels at the main entrance. The team who has the most food in their bin by the end of the week will get bragging rights.

“If you’re not a fan of either of them, it would just be really nice if you could donate for those that need it,” Colburn said.

The Packers take on the Vikings on Sunday at Lambeau Field at Noon.
