Paraglider rescued after crashing into pond
TOWN OF OREGON, Wis. (WKBT) – A paraglider is safe after crashing into a partially frozen pond on Friday evening.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says the paraglider was able to free himself from the aircraft but landed in the frigid waters.
He wasn’t able to get to shore, leaving him stranded in a remote and rural pond.
But a local resident was able to contact 911.
Responding firefighters waded on into the water in rescue suits to help the man.
He was safely brought to shore and treated for non-life threatening injuries, including cold-water exposure.
Authorities are still determining the cause of the crash.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents and visitors to be extra cautious near all lakes and waterways, especially because of the warmer temperatures.
