Parents’ mental health is important as the school year nears
UW Health wants parents to be aware of their own mental health while tending to the needs of their children and families
LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – If you are a parent, you may be worried and feeling anxious as the school year is set to begin… well you are not alone.
UW Health wants parents to be aware of their own mental health while tending to the needs of their children and families.
Health officials suggest finding a coping strategy that fits you.
Not all of them work the same.
Also, be sure to communicate your struggles and needs to your family and friends… and remember that sometimes you can be your own worst enemy.
“Talk to yourself, about yourself, the way you would talk about a good friend. When a good friend is struggling with something, you buck them up and encourage them,” said Dr. Gregory Rogers, a Psychologist at UW Health.
Helping children handle their stress is an important component in how well parents cope with their own situation… coming up with ideas as a family can make the process that much easier.
