Pedestrian struck and killed in Winona

A pedestrian was killed Monday morning crossing a highway in Winona.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Jane Elizabeth Schoewe, 73, of Winona was struck around 7:00 a.m. as she was crossing Highway 14 at Knopp Valley Drive.

The state patrol says a truck was eastbound on Hwy. 14 and Schoewe was heading southbound in the eastbound lane. Schoewe was not in a crosswalk, authorities said.

Road conditions were wet at the time of the crash, but authorities are not saying if that played a factor.

Highway 14 is closed this morning due to a pedestrian vs. vehicle crash at the intersection of Knopp Valley Drive.

Travelers are being routed north on Highway 61 to Winona County Road 23, then back to Highway 14 at Stockton.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, drivers can expect delays as traffic will be detoured for several hours while authorities complete an investigation.
