People are shopping local for Small Business Saturday
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Saturday was the 10th annual Small Business Saturday.
It’s a movement to get shoppers to support local stores while completing their holiday shopping.
Last year, shoppers spent nearly $18 billion dollars during the annual event, according to American Express.
Many downtown businesses have special sales to celebrate the day.
Shopping at small businesses helps the local economy, and small retailers often have more one-of-a-kind, unique gifts.
Dani Peterslie, manager of TJ’s Cheddarheads Gift Gallery, said, “we really try to cultivate an atmosphere here where it’s a shopping experience. We try to put extra effort into our displays and products. Our apparel is designed and printed in house. So it’s items you can’t find anywhere else.”
Small Business Saturday spending has reached an estimated $103 billion since the day began in 2010, according to American Express.
