Petition against new bluff trail project withdrawn due to funding issues
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A civil suit filed against the City of La Crosse over the Grandma’s Gateway Project has been withdrawn.
In mid-May, The Grandad Bluff Coalition and others submitted a Petition for Temporary Restraining Order and Permanent Injunction.
The Grandma’s Gateway project would initially create about five and a half miles of trails for pedestrians or bicyclists, including trails and an access point along 29th Street.
The group, some of which are residents on 29th street, oppose the construction because of environmental and safety concerns like potential soil erosion.
But now the petitioners are withdrawing their civil suit because of funding issues.
According to the signed court dismissal, the group is unable to afford additional legal counsel direct services or consultation.
In addition, they aren’t able to post bond if a temporary injunction were granted and the court-ordered it, as the respondent requested.
The La Crosse County Court first heard arguments for and against the new bluff trail project on May 22nd but did not make a decision that day.
