Planned Parenthood of Wis. closes Chippewa Falls Health Center

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. — Planned Parenthood closed its Chippewa Falls Health Center after 28 years Thursday due to state budget cuts.

The health center is the second of four Wisconsin Planned Parenthood facilities set to close within the next two months.  

Patients seeking treatment will now have to travel 20 minutes south to Eau Claire’s Planned Parenthood Health Center, according to a Planned Parenthood spokesperson.

The elimination of state funding to Planned Parenthood in 2012 resulted in the loss of funding in nine of organization’s 24 family planning centers across the state.

Supporters of state funding to Planned Parenthood argue that the state’s current budget proposal threatens the availability of affordable health care to patients. But anti-abortion advocates are critical of the organization offering abortion services at some of the Planned Parenthood facilities.
