Plant named after music legend Jimi Hendrix

A newly discovered succulent has been named after the late musician Jimi Hendrix.

The Associated Press reports the rare plant, which grows in Baja California, Mexico, was discovered by a student at San Diego University supposedly while listening to Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child.” The plant has been officially dubbed Dudleya hendrixii, or “Hendrix’s liveforever.”

Although the plant has an extensive lifespan, San Diego State says it’s two-acre habitat is increasingly threatened by farming, off-road vehicles and development.
