Play about Lombardi coming to Milwaukee theater

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Repertory Theater says it will bring Eric Simonson’s Broadway hit “Lombardi” to the stage this fall.

Now off its run on Broadway, the play about the legendary coach will run at The Rep from Oct. 11 through Nov. 13 on the Quadracci Powerhouse stage.

The play is based on the book “When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi” by David Maraniss. The Broadway producers say the play is about a balance between family, work and personal goals.

Playwright Eric Simonson grew up in Wisconsin, and says Lombardi was always part of life. Simonson created an earlier version of the play, which premiered in 2007, but rewrote the script after there was interest in a production for Broadway.
