Plein Air artists do ‘quick paint’ on Granddad Bluff in La Crosse for weekend art festival

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Area artists took their brushes to the bluffs at a “quick paint” competition on Saturday morning.

The plein air painters set up on Granddad Bluff, where they got two hours to paint the landscape.

This is part of the Between the Bluffs Plein Air Painting Festival.

Organizers say two hours is a quick session, but these are experts at capturing what they see.

“It’s a pretty fun event, but it also takes a high level of skill to complete a painting in that length of time,” said Festival Organizer Ellen Kallies. “You’d be surprised at how professional the paintings look in that time period.”

If you’d like to see these paintings and more, they’re on display at Studio Gallery 1311 on Market Street.
