Police: Man lying in roadway dies after being run over

Police ask 2 drivers to contact investigators

LAKE DELTON, Wis. — The Lake Delton Police Department said a 21-year-old man who was reportedly lying in the roadway died after being run over by a vehicle early Thursday morning.

Police said they were dispatched about 4:40 a.m. Thursday to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on County Highway A in Lake Delton.

Responders found a 21-year-old man from Lake Delton lying in the roadway critically injured who had been run over by a vehicle. The vehicle and the driver were also still at the scene.

Police said the victim was treated at the scene and then transported to St. Clare Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police said the man was reportedly lying in the roadway and a friend was attempting to pull him to safety. Before being run over, two other approaching vehicles had been warned by the friend of the man lying in the roadway and were able to drive around the man, according to a Lake Delton Police Department news release.

Police said they want to talk with these two drivers. They are asked to contact the Lake Delton Police Department via the Sauk County Communications Center at 608-254-8331.

Investigators said alcohol use is suspected as a contributing factor in this incident, and possible criminal and traffic charges are pending.

Officials said the name of the victim will be released at a later time pending notification of relatives.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lake Delton Police Department assisted by a Wisconsin State Patrol Crash Reconstruction Team.
