Police officer fatally shoots suspect in Waukesha
WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — A police officer has fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect in Waukesha after authorities say the man charged at the officer.
Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack says officers were looking for a suspect involved in a forgery case early Sunday. Police had been trying to get the man to turn himself in.
An officer found the 55-year-old man walking on a street. Police say the suspect pulled a knife and began threatening the officer. When the suspect charged, the officer was afraid the man would stab him and fired, striking the suspect four times in the chest.
Two backup officers arrived, and the officers tried to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The officer is on standard administrative leave. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating.
