Police say Iowa man assaulted pregnant girlfriend

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa man has been charged with assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and keeping her from leaving their apartment.

The Des Moines Register reports 35-year-old James Joseph Gabriel was arrested early Monday morning after the confrontation.

Des Moines police say Gabriel had several arguments with his 23-year-old girlfriend over the weekend.

Police say that on Sunday evening Gabriel pushed his girlfriend’s head into a window and knocked her to the ground.

Then he pushed her to the ground several times and moved a refrigerator in front of the door to keep her from leaving.

Gabriel was being held in the Polk County jail Tuesday on suspicion of third-degree kidnapping and domestic abuse.
