Prairie Walks offer insight into local nature
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Community members had the chance to get outside and learn a little bit about our area’s nature Saturday.
Prairie Walks were offered by the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. Walkers had the chance to see exhibits inside the refuge and the over two miles of trails surrounding the area. This is just the second year the refuge has been open to the public.
“We’re actually working on restoring this land to be a native sand prairie, which is one of the rarer prairie habitats – and prairie habitat itself is quite rare,” said Katie Julian, one of the park rangers.
