Preparations underway for La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Now that we’re in November, preparations are underway for the annual La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

The dinner is heading into its 35th year, but it almost didn’t happen last year.

It was briefly cancelled because of a lack of volunteers and people willing to serve on the planning committee.

Organizers say there are still openings to fill, but this year’s dinner will go off without a hitch.

They also want to remind the community dinner is just that, an event for the entire community.

“It’s not just for those who have no place to go, it’s not just for those who don’t have a home, it’s not just for those who don’t know how to make turkey, it’s for everyone. It’s truly a community event, so it’s the experience of community, it’s a day of sharing,” said Daria Lapp of the planning committee.

Doors for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner will open at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

An all-inclusive worship service will be held at 10:30 before the dinner is served from 11 until 3 p.m.

There will also be a variety of family activities, and a big screen showing the day’s football games.
