Program educates people on independent living
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — AARP HomeFit program is designed to educate people on how to navigate their living space safely as they age.
The goal of the program is to give participants ideas and resources to live in their homes longer.
They learn how to evaluate their homes “livability” so they can plan for independence, choice, and dignity as they age.
With baby boomers aging out, and housing in limited supply, this program found a solution.
“We need to have housing that is designed for people who are changing their life activities. And more often than not we are finding that people would like to live where they have been living,” AARP volunteer, Mike Murphy said.
The program was held at Black River Neighborhood Center.
