Protect yourself from noroviruses this winter

The winter season is known to cause many illness outbreaks particularly because people shut themselves indoors with others to escape the cold, and some of the most persistent and contagious illnesses include noroviruses.

You can get a norovirus many times in your life since there are actually many different kinds of the disease. Common symptoms often include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain with some forms of the virus including fevers and headaches.

Local doctors say preventing the illnesses from spreading can be difficult.

“I’d love to tell you that, ‘Oh, anything you do in the way of washing your hands is going to be perfect, or some of the sanitizing agents that you use.’ Fact of the matter is many of them are relatively ineffective,” said Mayo Clinic Health System Medical Doctor Charles Peters.

While some of those common steps may not be effective, you can still fight noroviruses with proper cleaning and watching where you put your hands.
