Queen of the Mississippi stops in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, WI — The Queen of the Mississippi stopped in La Crosse Thursday morning.
The Queen of the Mississippi is the first brand new, overnight sternwheeler built for the Mississippi in nearly 20 years. Construction wrapped up in 2012.
The boats are a source of nostalgia for some people as well as a reason to stop and take pictures. But the Queen of the Mississippi is also carrying 125 tourists on board who pump money into our economy. “They get off, walk up town, some of them are taking tours of different facilities around town, even the fact that they just walk up and maybe have a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone or do a little shopping, it all has an impact,” said the La Crosse Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Exec. Director Dave Clements.

The paddle wheeler started its tour in St. Louis. About 125 people are on board. They stop at a city, take the day to explore and then move on to the next city.
21612900After La Crosse, the passengers are getting off at Red Wing and taking a bus to the Twin Cities because the Mississippi River is too low.
American Queen will stop in La Crosse on Wednesday, August 28.
