Railcar explodes near Twin Cities
CANNON FALLS, Minn. (WKBT) — A railcar exploded Tuesday morning at a facility just south of Minneapolis in the city of Cannon Falls, Minn.
A railcar filled with molasses exploded at about 7:03 a.m. Tuesday at the Progressive Rail facility, causing significant damage to the building; although no one was injured, according to the Cannon Falls Police Department.
Police say there doesn’t appear to be any hazardous substances involved; however, “the surrounding area was affected by molasses that was ejected by the explosion and a full assessment of the area impacted is underway.”
The emergency response included the Cannon Falls Police Department, Cannon Falls Fire Department, Cannon Falls Ambulance Service, Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol.
