Railroad Convention Celebrates Area History
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The railroad industry was once one of the largest employers in La Crosse.
On Sunday at French Island, people gathered to celebrate the areas railroad history.
The Burlington Historical Society hosted their annual convention this weekend.
The convention finished up with a sale and swap meet.
Railroad collectors were able to purchase and trade model trains and other locomotive related items.
Organizers say railroad history is important for many in the area.
“It’s a very important part of La Crosses’s heritage. The railroad industry was a huge employer for La Crosse and a lot of people have family ties and connections and think fondly of the industry,” said 4000 Foundation president Mark Hamre.
The Burlington Historical Society has been together since 1978.
