Rainfall records broken in Green Bay, Appleton

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Recent heavy rains broke records in Green Bay and Appleton.

According to the National Weather Service, Green Bay received 1.05 inches of rain on Monday. That breaks the record of .88 inches set in 1924.

Appleton also broke a long-standing record with 2.15 inches recorded Monday. The old record of 1.76 inches was set in 1942.

At least one area road was reported to be closed due to a washout from rain and the Fox River.

Emergency officials said that while the rain surge created some difficulties amid this unusually soggy spring, the record-setting rainfall wasn’t enough to raise any major flooding concerns in the region.
