‘Reading for the Record’ looks to raise children’s interest in reading

La Crosse school district takes part in reading 'Bunny Cakes'

Some elementary school students are picking up a book in an effort to help set a world record.

Students at Hintgen Elementary school joined the La Crosse School district reading the book “Bunny Cakes.”

It’s part of a national read for the record campaign Tuesday trying to have the most people reading the same book at the same time ever.

“We wanted to participate not only to encourage students to get more excited about reading, but also to see that reading is big picture, a lot of people can do the same thing at the same time, and we wanted to be a part of that,” said Hintgen Elementary 1st Grade Teacher Jennifer Thill.

They’re hoping to break a record set by the same event last year where nearly 2.5 million people took part.
