Red Cross helps at Winona fire scene

The Red Cross was on scene of the fire in downtown Winona for most of Friday lending a helping hand.

Members of the Winona County chapter arrived not long after the fire started early Friday morning. Volunteers with the Rochester chapter also came in to provide some extra hands.

They were making sure all of the residents displaced were taken care of with housing and clothing needs, and also providing food and drink to all of the emergency workers. “We’re providing orange juice, coffee, water for them, bananas, donuts and we also served breakfast around 7 this morning,” said Red Cross Client Manger Gayle Gorman.

The Red Cross helped put up some of the displaced residents in hotels while others decided to stay with friends and family.
