Regional Rodeo brings cowboys and cowgirls to Holmen

Some of the best cowboys and cowgirls from across the Midwest are showing off their talent in the area.

The Western Wisconsin Regional High School and Junior High rodeo competition is underway in Holmen this weekend.

It’s sponsored by the Coulee Region Riders Club and gives competitors the opportunity to earn points for the chance to compete at nationals.

About 150 competitors from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan are at the rodeo.

Organizers said being prepared for the event takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

“The kids practice repeatedly throughout the week and attend clinics just to prepare and work with their horses and without horses on the other events,” said rodeo chairperson said Pam Shaw.

Shaw said this is the first year the rodeo has included junior high students.

Organizers hope other regional competitions will follow suit after seeing the success of their rodeo.
