Regulation changes ahead of Wisconsin gun-deer season
Local DNR also testing for CWD
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Wisconsin’s gun-deer season is this weekend, but there are some regulation changes hunters should know.
Hunters will not have to tag your game this year. Instead, the state is requiring hunters to register their deer either on line or over the phone by 5 p.m. the next night.
Also, Governor Scott Walker signed Act 62 into law this weekend which removes the state’s age restrictions on mentored hunts.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is also testing for Chronic Wasting Disease in nearby counties.
“We haven’t done a large sampling in a few years now, so we wanted to get some more samples at least in the landscape around here to have a better understanding if the disease is present, or if it’s not present, in these counties around us,” said Wisconsin DNR Wildlife Biologist Ron Lichtie.
La Crosse, Vernon, Crawford and Jackson county businesses will be testing for Chronic Wasting Disease this year.
