Rep. Kind introduces plan to support farmers

Kind asking for Administration, Dept of Agriculture to buy excess food

WASHINGTON D.C. – Representative Ron Kind is introducing a five step plan to support farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kind’s plan calls on the Trump Administration and the Department of Agriculture to buy excess food supply.

The food would be delivered to food banks and other programs that feed those in need.

It comes a year after farm bankruptcies reached a decade high according to the American Farm Bureau.

“Doesn’t require any new programs, doesn’t require any new legislation or new funding, or any new authority for the administration or the Department of Agriculture. But it does require immediate action now,” said Wisconsin Representative Ron Kind.

The plan also calls for farmers to be eligible for all small business relief programs.
