Rep. Kind, nonprofit host discussion promoting free trade benefits for farmers
BANGOR, WIs. (WKBT) — Talks in our area turned to international trade and its impact on Wisconsin farmers.
Congressman Ron Kind and the non-profit “Farmers for Free Trade” hosted the roundtable discussion in Bangor Tuesday. Those groups want to call on the federal government to remove international tariffs and strengthen trade relationships.
That call for change will include local farmers thanks to the touring discussion.
“The voices of the farmers need to be heard now more than ever. They’re going through a very tough period over the last 4 years with low prices, yet their fixed costs continue to go up. It’s the reason we’re seeing so many of them going out of business right now,” said Kind.
He also says one of the quickest ways the government can help local farmers is by ending the ongoing trade wars across the globe.
