Rep. Kramer elected Assembly majority leader

MADISON, WI (AP) — Wisconsin Assembly Republicans have selected Rep. Bill Kramer to be their majority leader.

Kramer defeated Rep. Dean Knudson in the election Wednesday. Ballots were cast in secret and vote totals were not released.

He replaces Rep. Scott Suder, who resigned his position on Tuesday. He is going to work for Gov. Scott Walker’s administration.

The majority leader position is second in power only to the speaker. The job involves scheduling bills and directing action during debate.

Kramer has to give up his position presiding over the Assembly in order to run for majority leader. Rep. Tyler August, of Lake Geneva, ran unopposed for that position.
