Rep. Ryan responds to death of Gadhafi

MUSKEGO, Wis. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan says the death of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi is the ending of a very sad chapter of a brutal dictator.

The Wisconsin Republican made the comment Thursday after a listening session in Muskego.

He says he hopes the Libyans can build a strong society with Gadhafi gone.

The 150 people who attended were largely supportive of Ryan, and the event was free of heckling that Ryan faced during similar sessions in the spring.

He drew large and sometimes raucous crowds at that time after he released his proposal to restructure Medicare and cut social safety-net programs such as food stamps and Medicaid.

Of the about 20 or so people who asked questions Thursday, no one asked about Medicare. They generally focused on jobs and the economy.
