Report: Packers bring back QB Bortles with Rodgers, Benkert out
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday afternoon that with the team down to only active quarterback for Sunday’s game with the Chiefs, the Packers are bringing back quarterback Blake Bortles.
Per Schefter, Bortles is flying to Green Bay and will be added to the practice squad before being made active for Sunday’s game.
Bortles was brought in during the summer when Aaron Rodgers decided not go attend offseason team workouts. Bortles was then released when Rodgers returned to the team for training camp.
The Packers lost third-string QB Kurt Benkert on Monday after he tested positive for COVID-19. The team then discovered Rodgers tested positive Wednesday morning, and with Rodgers’ unvaccinated status, he has to be out a minimum of 10 days, test negative twice 24 hours hours apart and be asymptomatic.
