Report: Twins working on extension for Byron Buxton
The Twins will likely be in sell mode these next two weeks before the Trade Deadline thanks to their 39-50 record, and one player in particular could define their trading strategy.
Byron Buxton, who’s currently injured with a fractured hand, is in talks with the Twins on a long-term extension. The Athletic is reporting that the Twins have offered him more than $70 million guaranteed plus incentives.
If the sides can’t agree, the outlet reports the Twins could look to trade him.
Buxton has had two separate stints on the IL this season. When he’s been healthy, he’s hit .369 with 10 home runs and 11 doubles in 110 plate appearances.
Buxton was the number 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft, but has been on the injured list 11 times, and has just one season in which he played 100 games.
