Resolution addressing unhoused families in La Crosse County passes

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The plan to shelter unhoused people in La Crosse County is coming together.

The La Crosse County Board Executive Committee met Wednesday morning to pass a resolution that addresses how to find shelter for the unhoused families in our area.

Committee members agreed to use funding from a resolution first set in 2018 called ‘Homeless Prevention Services Funding’.

$500,000 were originally allocated for the plan, but have not been completely used.

About $169,000 remain and will be used to place families in motels and give them motel vouchers through the ‘Community Emergency Sheltering Plan For Families’.

Organizations like Coulee Cap and the YMCA will also assist families with services.

“It is a very collaborative effort, I will say and there are other resources being brought into this process besides the county funding,” said First Vice-Chair Kim Cable.

The funding will also help families who benefit or once benefitted from the Wisconsin Emergency Rental Assistance Program (WERA) in a number of ways, including using county funds if families have used their WERA funds for vouchers.
