Retailers see spike in food sales as Super Bowl nears
Forbes says Super Bowl 50 will generate $620 million in overall revenue
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Grocery stores across the country will be cashing in on the big game, as sales of food and snacks spike as the game draws near.
Forbes says Super Bowl 50 will generate $620 million in overall revenue, a record for a one day sporting event, and even though the Packers aren’t playing, local retailers are expecting pretty large crowds.
“It’s still busy, but it’s not as busy as it would be if the Packers were coming, you get maybe not as many of the casual fans coming and watching and then not having as big of parties, so people are just doing it at their house but the parties might not be there, but it’s still a big holiday for most people,” said Festival Foods Assistant manager Adam Werschofen.
Most people make their purchases the day before the game, but you may still find a crowded store the day of if you wait.
