Richland County deputy accused of sexual assault of prisoner

MADISON (WKBT) — A 31-year-old Richland County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday on an allegation of sexual assault of a prisoner.
Timothy Buckley was arrested in the county seat of Richland Center and placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Buckley is expected to be charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault – “sexual contact with an individual confined to a correctional institution by a correctional staff member,” according to the DOJ’s
Division of Criminal Investigation.
Buckley has been a Richland County deputy since March 2021.
Following allegations of misconduct at the Richland County Jail, Sheriff Clay Porter asked the DOJ to conduct an independent investigation to protect possible additional victims inside the jail, according to the news release.
Given the sensitive nature of the investigation, Porter said he believes it is important to maintain transparency of his office to the public, the release said.
The DCI is leading the investigation, and the Vernon County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
