River Falls mom releases memoir 10 years after her daughters were murdered by their father
Jessica Peterson wants to inspire others to carry grief with grace and integrity,
RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT)- Parents are not supposed to bury their children. A River Falls mom buried all three of her daughter after they were brutally murdered by their father.
It’s been ten years since Amara, Sophie, and Cecilia Schaffhausen’s deaths. Over that time, their mother Jessica Peterson has learned how to cope with her grief. She went to therapy. She became a public speaker. And this November she released her memoir, “Thistles and Thorns”.
Peterson says she wrote the book because she wants the world to know about her girls. And she wants to help others—which also helps her cope. “Yes, it hurts every day, but part of that survival is building a life I love as much as the one I lost. And reaching out to people and letting them know tragedies happen, explains Peterson. “If I can help one person see a way through their own tragedy or grief, then it’s all worth it. We all have these broken bits about us and some of those bits actually make us more beautiful.”
“Thistles and Thorns is an Amazon, number one new release. It’s available as an e-book and in hard copy.
Peterson is holding speaking and book signing events. You can connect with her and order a copy of her book online.
