River levels in La Crosse area are seven feet below flood stage
Because river levels at more normal levels, wildlife will benefit from exposed plant life.
LA CROSSE CO. (WKBT) – Local river levels are returning to normal for the first time in a while.
The Mississippi River is currently at 4.7 feet.
That’s a little more than 7 feet below flood stage.
If that sounds low, experts say there is a reason.
“Even though it might be at a normal level, it might appear to be lower because you have places of sediment deposit that you didn’t before,” said U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refuge visitor services manager.
The Mississippi River is expected to stay at or about 4.7 feet for at least the next few days.
Rasmusseun says because river levels at more normal levels, wildlife will benefit from exposed plant life.
