Riverhawks ready for action as training camp kicks off at Central High
The Riverhawks kicked off training camp earlier this week as Central High looks to build on a 7-3 campaign from a season ago. The offense will have a new leader this year as senior Mason Elston plans to step in under center. In his previous two seasons on the squad, Elston was primarily used on the defensive side of the ball.
“I’m happy to be able to throw the ball. That’s what I do,” Elston said. “Going out on Friday night, and being with my guys, I’m looking so forward to it.”
“I think he would’ve started for quite a few teams last year,” Head Coach Mitch Olson added. “We’re excited for him and we expect big things out of him this year.”
As for the defense, that side of the ball will look different as well, with roughly 9 or 10 starters from last season needing to be replaced.
“There are a lot of guys who have been waiting for their turn to go out there and play,” Olson said. “They may be first year starters but they’re still veterans and experienced because of the work they got in last year.”
The Riverhawks open up their season on the road against Eau Claire North on Friday, August 19th.
