Robert H. “Bob” Stevenson
November 9, 1954 ~ November 11, 2022
Robert H. “Bob” Stevenson, age 68, of De Soto, WI, passed away surrounded by his loving family and in the comfort of his home on Friday, November 11, 2022. His gentle spirit was born on November 9, 1954 in Viroqua, WI, the son of Adolph and Alberta “June” (Jones) Stevenson. Bob grew up on the family farm, South Buck Creek, Ferryville, WI. He graduated from North Crawford
High School in 1972 before furthering his skills at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI. Bob married Catherine Zeimet on May 2, 1981, and for over 41 years they were devoted to each other and raised their family together. Work was an essential part of what drove Bob; he was a dependable co-worker and mentor to many as a meatcutter at Lansing IGA from 1973 to 2014, and Steve’s Country Meats from 2014 until his diagnosis in October of 2021. In 1988, he purchased a portion of the family farm. Bob had a deeply rooted connection to the earth and prized the crops and cattle that made driftless life so good, always enjoying the yield of harvest. Hunting was an activity Bob looked forward to each year because it gave him the chance to spend quality time with his dad and sons each season. That’s the kind of dad Bob was – the kind that unconditionally supported his kid’s interest, encouraged their goals, took genuine pleasure in watching them succeed, and showed them the value of hard work. He was a leader who inspired others by example, and countless kids benefited over the years from his lessons as a youth baseball and softball coach. Bob never missed a chance to watch any one of the Wisconsin sports teams and cheer them on. Above all, it was the simple pleasures in life that satisfied. He was a selflessly devoted family man and friend, full of quick wit and harmless pranks, who will be greatly missed by those he loved.
Bob is survived by his wife, Catherine; three children: Erik of La Crosse, WI, Whitney of Sparta, WI, and Alex Stevenson of Ft. Bliss at El Paso, TX; siblings: Gloria (Fred) Wolff, Jeff Stevenson, Becky (Joe) Falkers, and Lori (Ed) Copus; and he became part of this family: Frank (Kim) Zeimet, John (Joyce) Zeimet, Robert (Barb) Zeimet, Kenny Zeimet, Teresa (Tim) Jandrey, Debra Zeimet, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Burial will take place in the Utica Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Ferryville, at a later date. An informal gathering will be later announced. In lieu of plants, flowers, or other gifts, acts of kindness are encouraged as a way to pay it forward in Bob’s name. Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua is assisting the family.
A special thank you to Dr. Stephanie Neuman, Karen, Amber, and P.A. Kaz at Gundersen Health System Neurosciences, and to Greg and Jason from Gundersen Hospice.
