Ruby Pinski
December 18, 1924 - May 5, 2022
Ruby M. Pinski, 97, of Onalaska, formerly of La Crosse, passed into the eternal care of her Savior on May 5, 2022, at the Onalaska Care Center.
She was born December 18, 1924, to Henry and Lisette (Wege) Schmeckpeper in Barre Mills, Wisconsin. She graduated from La Crosse Central High School in June of 1942.
After graduation, Ruby worked at both Gateway Foods and Lutheran Hospital in the payroll department. In between those jobs, she worked as a secretary to the principal at Webster Elementary School.
She was a life-long member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and met her future husband, Arnie. Ruby also served for many years at the church in Mothers Club, Ladies Aid and the kitchen for a multitude of church events
Ruby loved cooking, baking, square dancing, camping, skiing with Arnie, going to “the farm,” consistently beating Arnie in cribbage and listening to Arnie, her sons and grandsons play music.
Her baking skills were well-renowned. Arnie would often use the phrase “melt-in-your-mouth.” In fact, at one time, she considered opening a bakery out of their home
Ruby is survived by her sons, Ken (Sue), Rich and John; her grandchildren, Ross (Renee) and Mark (Cortnee); her great-grandchildren, Max, Tess, Dax, Ruby and Beck; her niece, Linda (Mark) Olson, and nephews Ronald Freyhoff and Louis Freyhoff
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnie; two sisters Elvera and Lucille, and one brother, Hank.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Richard Pamprin will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or Luther High School. The family would like to thank the staff at both Brookdale Assisted Living and Onalaska Care Center.
Ruby, we will all miss how unselfish, thankful, helpful and kind you were. Thank you for all those smiles and cucumber sandwiches!
