Russian plane crashes; 16 seriously injured

A Russian plane carrying 32 passengers crashed in Siberia on Sunday, seriously injuring 16.

“Three soldiers are in grave condition,” Russian new service Tass reported.

The propeller craft was an IL-18 belonging to the Russian defense ministry crashed in Yakutia in Siberia, according to reports from the BBC and New York Times.

Weather conditions were reportedly bad in the area at the time.

The plane broke into three pieces in what appears to have been an emergency landing, although no fire broke out.

The New York Times reports the crash site is so remote it is closer to Anchorage, Alaska, than to Moscow.
