LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — This week kicks off the yearlong North American Safe Boating Campaign.
The campaign promotes safe, responsible boating and encourages the use of life jackets.
Every year more than 500 people drown in boating accidents. With the theme of ‘Wear It’ the US Coast Guard is hoping to reduce the number of fatalities.
When you head out on the water here are some recommendations from the US Coast Guard: always wear a life jacket that is both approved by them and the right size for you, do not go boating while impaired, and always pay attention to your surroundings.
