School District of La Crosse leaders look to future of district buildings following survey
71% of respondents say they support downsizing to reduce operating costs.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The School District of La Crosse is looking to the future after releasing the results of a long-range facility planning survey.
A majority of the 4,664 returned surveys showed support for plans to reduce costs and consolidate schools.
“We were encouraged by the results on how the community supports our vision of right sizing our buildings and even for the more potentially controversial question on a high school,” said School District of La Crosse Superintendent Aaron Engel.
71% of respondents say they support downsizing to reduce operating costs.
79% say they support reducing the number of middle schools from three to two.
70% say they support reducing the number of elementary schools.
55% support consolidating La Crosse’s two high schools into one.
The district will use the initial survey results to finalize a long-range facilities plan.
Once complete, the district will provide a second survey this spring.
