Science Saturday teaches community about Asian Carp

New techniques explained in tracking invasive species

Science Saturday is an event put together by the Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Refuge in order to teach the community about the Asian Carp problem in our area’s bodies of water.

Experts talked about the new way they can track the carp through looking at their DNA.  Along with the new strategy in locating the invasive species, tips were also given out for community help.

“Don’t dump your bait, don’t move your bait between water systems.  Check your life bilge system.  Clean your boat and trailer of all aquatic hitch hikers and just be really careful when you buy a bucket of minnows, don’t let any get away alive in the water,” said Dr. Emy Monroe of the United States Fish and Wildlife refuge.
