Seed library growing at La Crosse Public Library
LA CROSSE, Wis. — Back in February the La Crosse Public Library launched a seed library program.
Librarians handed out six hundred packets of seeds to people interested in growing a garden.
They also taught the people how to save seeds after their plants grow so they can keep the library stocked.
Right now there are twenty four different varieties including lettuce, beans, and tomatoes.
The librarians coordinating the effort hope this will be another successful way for the community to go green. “There’s a lot of local initiatives going on for local food, sustainability and we just believe great libraries build great communities,” said Seed Library Co-coordinator Kelly Becker.
The library is done handing out seeds this year but will start again next spring.
Librarians hope to expand the variety of seeds provided.
